Christmas Series 2017 | Day #5 Penguin Dreaming

Happy Wednesday my dear friends. It has been a few weeks since I was last here.  I haven’t been posting these last few weeks because we had a fire in our home. Our sump-pump in the basement caught on fire. We are all fine and thanks to a water pipe that burst and put out the fire, our home is still here. The damage is only at the basement level and is mostly soot damage which is being taken care of by a company the insurance has brought in. Still, it has been a rough couple of weeks. The firemen told us that our battery smoke detector saved our lives. It was 2 am and were all fast asleep. The detector went off and woke us up. I don’t like thinking about what might have happened if we didn’t have it. So, I feel that I need to l spread the message. Make sure you have a working smoke detector on every level of your house, especially the level where you sleep.

Our kitchen reno is still on-going. The new kitchen was not affected by the fire but there have been many delays because of it. Everything is mostly done. Appliances are all hooked up and running and counters have been installed. We just have some finishing to be done and some modifications of cabinets. That is all supposed to move forward this coming Monday!  Everyone has been amazingly kind and helpful and it makes a situation like this so much easier. Kindness truly matters!

I filmed this video right before all the craziness began. This week is the first week I have had any time to get back to my craft room and I knew that I had to get this video editted and this post UP! I created a 6x8” December Daily album page using digital papers, image and sentiment from Whimsy stamps. The glitter snowflake was created using a metal snowflake die from Whimsy! I am loving this cute little penguin.

Christmas Series 2017 | Day # 4 Cozy Christmas

Happy Wednesday! Hope your week is going well! We are STILL in the midst of kitchen renovations. We had one delay that has had a domino effect on all other work. At the moment we are at a stand-still waiting for some trades to finish so that others can do their thing. I just keep channeling positive thoughts because we are extremely lucky to be able to do this reno in the first place. Still, a kitchen renovation is really not for the faint of heart. Check out my instagram to see the progress!

Today I have a new project to share with you in my 2017 Christmas Series. It is for my December Daily album and is a two page design. The first page has a peek-thru to the next page. It was a piece that evolved as I was working on it and I used products from a TON of different compagnies! It is so fun to mix and match and create your own unique page! Without furthur ado, let’s get into it!

The paper for the front as well as the die cut sentiment were part of a December Daily kit (I think last year’s) that I hadn’t used yet. I am trying to use up all the extra pieces!

The window was diecut using a Memory Box die that I have had for so long. There are matching shutters and I flower box that match. I ended up using the frame and the box only. The window box was “dressed” up by using a Martha Stewart leaf craft punch (also super old) to create some evergreen boughs. It adds texture and interest to the page and a nice pop of color to off-set all the red!

I love that you can see the little girl through the window. It just invites you to turn the page!

This scene took on a life of it’s own as I just continued to add layer after layer. It is so rewarding when all the different components that you have pulled out of various stashes all come together to form a perfectly matched scene! (It takes a little patience too, but it is worth it).

The sentiment was one of the last things that I added and I am so happy with how it matches the exact mood of the page. This reminds me of how I felt on a Christmas evening; warm, cozy, sleepy, safe and loved.

December Daily and October Craft Haul 2017

Happy Friday my lovelies. These days, if I am not busy with my kitchen reno or taxiing my kids to and fro, I am palnning my December Daily and Christmas projects. I love to create for the holidays and there is never enough time. You may think I am too early in the December mode, but I promise you that it is never too early.

So, although this is a Craft Haul video, I did take the time in the first few minutes of the video to share how I create my December Daily albums. I share some pages from my album for 2016 and also divulge that I never complete the last few days of the album….I always do that the following year! Just the way I roll! Now, because I shared some of the pages that I created, I also included the product links for you :) You’ll find them below the video!

Christmas Series 2017 | Day #3 Penguin Celebrates

Happy day! Hope you are having a good day. I have Day #3 in my 2017 Christmas Series to share with you today and it features one of Whimsy Stamps’ signature penguins. This cutie is adorable with his over-sized Santa hat and his heart-shaped candy-canes. I created this with my December Daily Album in mind. I will either add him to one of the 4x6” pockets or create a 6x8” page and use him as the focal point.

I think what makes this image really pop is the background that was created with Distress Inks. Kristina Werner used these exact colors to create a background for one of her cards(you can see it here) and I thought the effect was so stunning that I used her color palette for my penguin. Adding the white dots with a gel pen makes the background extra special and it always amazes me to see what one small detail can do to elevate the entire project.

I had foiled paper in the exact shade of magenta and I think the die-cut word just finishes it off perfectly.

Recipe Binder | Elisabeth Bell Digital Images

Happy Tuesday! Hope you had a great week-end and for my dear Canadian friends, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! We went to my sister’s place this year as our kitchen reno is still on-going! The end is in sight and the cabinets start to go in today! I cannot wait to see it all come together. The planning has been going on for so long!

Today’s project is actually connected to our renovation! The state of my recipe collecion was dire. It was just one of those things that I never got the chance to really organize to work functionally for me. I decided that during the reno would be the perfect time to tackle this project.  Lately, all my new recipes are found on Pinterest but I have so many that just aren’t there. My Mum’s recipes, my Dad’s and some that were given to my as a newly we by older co-workers. Those are really my staple recipes and ones that I want to hand down to my kids. I have formatted them all the same way and added little pieces of advice – things that I do when making the recipes.

Whilst I was shopping for school supplies for my boys, I happened to see these gorgeous binders from Avery. They were perfect for what I planned to do. They were flexible, they came in a 1-inch size (I wanted to split my recipes into 3 binders) and they had a insert sleeve in the front so that I could create my own original cover. The bonus was that there was a gorgeous damsk design on the back, spine and front (minus the window) AND they came in 3 different shades!

I pretty well didn’t even consider what I would use to create the cover pages. It was always going to be Elizabeth Bell images. Now that many of her designs are available as digital images, I would be able to create covers that were to scale with my binders. Here are the binders and following the images there is a video sharing my thought process as well as the coloration of one of the images!

Here is the insert that I colored in my video, before putting it in the binder. Isn’t she sweet?

Here it is once slipped into the front binder cover. This is the blue damask design and holds all my baking recipes.

Here is the grey damask that housed my recipes for soups, salads, pastas and drinks:

and here is the black damask where I have recipes for mains and sides:

Christmas 2017 | Day #2 Shadow Box Cards - Lawn Fawn

Happy Thursday! I have a new project and video for my 2017 Christmas Series! I used some of the amazing, new products from Lawn Fawn to create this fun and sweet shadow box cards. They fold flat for mailing and then pop  open to display the little scene created inside. Lots of fun and with all the cute winter/Christmas themed sets from Lawn Fawn – endless possiblities to create your own and personalized scenes! The video and supplies are at the bottom of this post;  after all the photos!

The shadow box die set comes with a ton of metal dies. You can choose the apetature you want (there are tow sizes of rectangles and one oval), create snow banks, waves or a landscape, and add trees! So much in one set! Once you get the hang of folding and adhering the box components, it is pretty fast to whip them up!   I also did a little switch up and turned the box on its’ side. Let me share what I created:
